Trump blames bad mic for his ‘sniffles’

September 27, 2016

Donald Trump on Tuesday denied he was sniffling throughout the presidential debate, though his snorts dominated social media.

Instead, the GOP nominee blamed overly sensitive microphones used at the Hofstra University showdown on Monday night.

“No! No sniffles,” he told Fox New Channel. “No. You know, the mic was very bad but maybe it was good enough to hear breathing.”

The Republican insisted he wasn’t sick: “But no sniffles, no cold.”

Trump’s heavy breathing made for huge Twitter chatter throughout Monday’s debate – particularly in light of his suggestions that Hillary Clinton isn’t physically fit to lead the free world.

“Trump’s new nickname is `Sniffles,’ ” tweeted comic Patton Oswalt. “I’m VERY VERY worried about Trump’s health. What is he hiding.”

Onetime Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean and late-night host Stephen Colbert also had a ball at Trump’s expense.

Trump “sounded like he was fighting off a cold with cocaine,” Colbert said on “The Late Show.”

Dean was even more blunt on Twitter: “Notice Trump sniffling all the time. Coke user?”
