Trusteeships

In certain situations a national union may take control of the administrative and financial affairs of a local union by placing it in a trusteeship. The McClellan committee found that in some cases a trusteeship was established not to protect union members from incompetent or corrupt officials in the local union but to control the pension and dues money of the local or to stifle political dissent in the union. The Landrum-Griffin Act limited the ability of a national union to place a local under trusteeship and required the national to explain why a trusteeship that lasts more than six (6) months has not been terminated.

  1. THIS IS WHAT MANHATTANVILLE HAD TO SAY ABOUT BAD STANDING. IN HIS OWN WORDS:

    Bad standing V

You have a right to protest and complain to the Department of Labor, here is the address:
    U.S. Department of Labor, OLMS
    District Director
    201 Varick Street, Room 878
    New York, NY 10014
    Phone (646) 264-3190
If you are a member of TWU Local 100 in good standing you can request from the Department of Labor to make public of those ‘forty one (41)’ current officers and challenge the election of 2009 of TWU Local 100, that they should be barred from holding office.
John E Samuelsen president of TWU Local 100 Take Backward Our Union TBOU should be bold by revealing the names of the current officers who were in bad standing ‘forty one (41)’ sooner rather than later, he should be bolder by kicking them out of office. He should not tolerate those current officers who were in bad standing however do not hold your breath, he loves them and he will protect them. You will have to pay for the legal fees that is a cavalier arrogance with the membership dues.
It is understandable if the membership feels that John E Samuelsen president of TWU Local 100 Take Backward Our Union TBOU is out of touch. With fairness means to the membership who work hard and play by the rules and who are feeling this bad standing issue only exposes Samuelsen’s true colors by ignoring this issue, it is obvious he does not have a little bit of sympathy with the membership who feel he is out of touch. When do you think he will recognize this issue of bad standing - we believe he will not deal with bad standing based on this below.
John E Sameulsen president of TWU Local 100 Take Backward Our Union TBOU - on Tuesday June 29, 2010 - Executive board meeting minutes on page 3, paragraph 4 says ‘In regards to the investigation that is being conducted by the Department of Labor there is anticipation of names of those that attended the International Convention to check if they were in bad standing. President Samuelsen will litigate on behalf of those at Local 100 found in bad standing ...’. We do not agree with his point of view, why waste the membership funds in defending those officers who were in bad standing. It is obvious he is out of touch, he is a nice family man but he has poor judgement.
TWU International and TWU Local 100 are facing difficult and challenging circumstances in regards to the bad standing issue. The current leadership instead of rising to the occasion in cleaning the mess they have created they chose to litigate and protect current officers who were in bad standing. It is obvious that they are out of touch and are not concerned with what affects the membership in improving their livelihood prospects. Posted by manhattanville at 10/21/2011

  2. Brother Jim, don't waste your time with this slug. He will be part of the Samuelsen administration soon. He thinks the rest of us are fools and will buy the claim that he will make changes from within once he gets his foot in the door. He was once a fighter and I witnessed Steve Downs call him a liar to his face at a section meeting. Little did Downs realize the real Michael Alden was not the ainti Samuelsen Michael Alden but a much more cunning one that only blasted Samuelsen in the past in order to get his attention. The complete pancake flip would follow down the road. Michael Alden can not be trusted. After I determined he was a fake and began posting such on his blog he took me off his blog update mailing list. Everytime he would post I would receive an update...I no longer do. Alden is a shameless buffoon capable of yelling FIRE in a crowded movie theatre but only if he is standing right at the door so he is capable of being the first one to safety. Alden is no foxhole fighter like Tom Creegan and myself. You do not want to go to war with a Michael Alden on your team.

  3. I had held out hope for him but I'm afraid your right. I've seen this played out time and time again and usually the one yelling FIRE gets burnt.

  4. Ma-phony: Since you are into publishing people's past comments here is one of your own about John Samuelsen

"...Samuelsen had to find a new building with only half the money it was sold for. Toussaint and Watt decimated any structure that existed in Local 100 before they left, and I suspect with the help of people like Creegan Local 100 will face a tougher time getting back on its feet. But with Samuelsen at the helm, it eventually will."

take your time preparing an alibi.

  5. 1) You have asked me to use my name and not trantalk. So I did that only to have you act like a five year old. Grow up.

    2) Samuelsen finding a building did not and does not mean a condo.

    3) Toussaint and Watt did exactly what I said. Tom Creegan helped expose the fraud (like you)that permeates our union today and has earned my respect and admiration. Of course in your case by fraud I mean scab. Nothing personal it is what it is, you didn't pay your dues and are not qualified to hold office.

  6. What I am pointing out is how you live by a double standard, how you can change your mind on things and people and it is o.k. but when others appear to do it, it is a major offense.

Your unsolicited bashing of Alden had the quality of bullying that I detest. Gang up at your own risk, expect some back coming at you. No one gets free shots in life.

And yes you have made it personal by your constant singling out of me. So you get what you pay for.

Your high and mighty attitude is one that ignores your dubious past, your intentions are for personal gain and no other reason. That is my opinion.

And of course you are entitled to your opinion, but when you try to control someone else's blog or run people off the blog. It will not stand.

My position is clear, let the DOL run its investigation and the chips fall where they may.
I am a member in good standing and never a scab, because scab implies intent.

I am sure you will disagree but that is your right.
