President Trump’s Twitter silence on Timothy Caughman’s murder by white supremacist speaks volumes

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

In the two-plus months since millions and millions of Americans crowded the Washington Mall to witness the peaceful transfer of power, the President of the United Stated has whined on Twitter about basketball team owner Mark Cuban, Arnold Schwarzenegger and "The Apprentice," rapper Snoop Dogg and "Saturday Night Live."

He even tweeted about the bad people at Nordstrom who said they would not be carrying his daughter Ivanka's clothing and accessory lines anymore because of poor sales.

The 45th President took time out of his busy day exaggerating inauguration crowd estimates and blaming illegal voters for cheating him out of a popular vote victory to fire off a nasty tweet about the department store chain.

He wrote that his daughter had been "treated so unfairly" by the company.

"Terrible," he said.

But in the time since a racist rode a bus for three and a half hours from Baltimore to Trump's hometown to hunt down a random black man with a sword the approximate length of my arm, not a single word has rolled off President Petty's fingertips.

Not a "terrible." Not even a "sad."

To be fair, terror suspect James Jackson — yes, terror — didn't become a racist on Trump's watch.

Jackson, 28, a white Army veteran, said he began harboring his hate against black men about a decade ago, which means his bigotry ran through the administrations of both President Bush and President Obama.

But it wasn't until after Trump put one hand on the Bible and another in the air and repeated the words of a Supreme Court justice and said,"So help me, God" did Jackson feel empowered enough pay his Bolt Bus fare and go on his bigoted black man hunt.

Does that sound like the work of someone who's making America great again?

Anyone who calls himself a New Yorker would be mortified that someone, an Army veteran, no less, would select New York — the media capital of the world — to stalk black men and kill one with a sword.

Check that. Anyone with with 10 fingers and a thought in his head would be incensed by such a hateful act.

That is not to say that Trump isn't bothered by the random murder of Timothy Caughman, 66, Monday night in Midtown, less than two miles from Trump Tower.

For all we know, the President could be in the Oval Office right now sharing his outrage with Steve Bannon and Jeff Sessions, those staunch defenders of civil rights, and discussing ways to extend Black History Month by another 30 days.

The point is that if this President is at all aggrieved by hate and bigotry and the hurtful and deadly crimes that they cause, then he needs to spend at least as much time speaking out against such behavior as he does tweeting about Snoop Dogg's music videos or Tom Brady's performance in the Super Bowl.
