30% of the membership are in bad standing. Therefore we recommend that there be an amnesty for those who are in bad standing.
Some of those who are in bad standing claimed that they will never bring themselves to good standing for some reason or the other. Some of those reasons are reasonable especially for those associated with sickness or medical conditions. However to move forward as a strong union without acrimony Samuelsen should think of granting amnesty to the members that are in bad standing.
Since Samuelsen has a soft spot for illness, sickness and medical conditions then here is one way to demonstrate that he truly cares by doing the right thing. The members who have paid their dues and who are in good standing will understand that.
I disagree with bringing members who did not pay their dues into good standing. There is a mechanism that exists in our bylaws/constitution that allows for dues exemption in any given month where the member made less than 75% of their pay due to illness or injury. That will take care of those who were truly ill and can prove it. The rest of the deadbeats need to pay up.
ReplyDeleteRemember, anyone in bad standing will not be allowed to join the retirees association and guess who administers the retiree prescription plan. No ticky, no shirty. They will pay one way or another. Much cheaper and better morale to pay it now.
Agreed Frank. Also these guys who did not pay their dues are in the front of the anti-solidarity fund group. They pissed on the union when the Union needed them and now they are pissing on the laid-off members and the union again.
ReplyDeleteSo the remedy for this is amnesty?
No friggin way.
