We always hear that the wheel of justice is broken and we can not pin point exactly where the wheel is broken. However in some instances we can find exactly where the wheel has broken from.
The trial of Horace Moore the murderer of the New York City Bus Operator Edwin Thomas who was murdered on December 1, 2008 - revealed how the justice wheel is broken. The wheel of justice in this case was broken by the liberal judge who failed to render proper justice. However the NYPD worked superbly as well as the district attorney who did their job amicably.
The judge meted 20 years to life jail sentence to Horace Moore who is 22 years old. For argument’s sake let's assume the murderer did the time then by age 42 he would be out. Is that a proper amount of time for a murderer? we would prefer life imprisonment without parole.
Here is where we reach the boiling point, we feel that the judge spat on our face and said our lives at best are worth 20 years. This is a place where precedent can be set for the future. Specifically a time where Samuelsen should send a clear message that members of Local 100 lives are worth more than 20 years and the thugs on the street should know that if they murder a member of Local 100 they will do life behind bars and not 20 years. We would prefer to have a hanging judge, or even a gung ho right wing judge who could have sent Horace Moore up the river and throw away the key. Or even if we were in those states that have the capital punishment.
In this case we would also have loved to had one of Rudolph Giuliani’s tough and no nonsense judge’s who values the average hard working people of New York City. The judge may have overlooked the nature of a grisly stabbing of the bus operator Edwin Thomas the pain inflicted while he was strapped in the operator seat can not be overlooked.
Today and not tomorrow John Samuelsen must convene an emergency executive board meeting and ponder what actions should be undertaken in lieu of this liberal judge’s sentence. Samuelsen has enormous powers and those powers must be utilized now to send a clear message that we are not happy with this liberal judge’s sentence. Now is the time for Samuelsen to shine and demonstrate his leadership skills and actions. Although we understand that we are in a moral dilemma because we must respect the judge’s ruling. However we must demonstrate that we are not happy and not satisfied with this sentence. Samuelsen has infinite means that can be deployed and he must prove by deed that he truly cares for his members of Local 100.
It already was a felony to assault him. All buses have the sticker about 7 years.
ReplyDeleteWhen it crossed over to murder, all they added to the sentence was an additional 13 years?? Then a reduction on the full 20 if he's a good boy in jail? This is outrageous!
